Faced with liquefiable soils overlaying highly compressible layers, the Silver Reef Hotel and Casino’s six-story expansion demanded innovative geotechnical solutions. Mr. Rohrbach led the design of a combined wick-drain, stone column, and preload surcharge program, accelerating the foundation phase by three months. This approach not only expedited the overall project by approximately six months but also resulted in savings of around $1,000,000. The project’s success was recognized with the “ASCE (Seattle Section) 2007 Outstanding Project” award, highlighting our commitment to excellence and innovation in geotechnical engineering.
